Mediation Process
Conflict is a part of human interaction.  Mediation is a way to help people improve the quality of their communication when in the midst of conflict.  Mediators help parties talk together, clarify issues, develop alternatives, and make decisions.  The process gives people an opportunity to become more open to another perspective and gain interpersonal understanding.

Note:  This Family Mediation Training meets the requirements of the basic training component of the Court Annexed Custody Mediation Program in Montgomery County, PA.  If Basic Mediation Training has been taken at MCMC, only the last 3 days of this course must be taken to meet the requirements.

What will you learn?
This intensive workshop focuses on the perspective and skills needed to begin to work successfully as a family mediator.  The workshop format will combine lecture, group discussion, and guided practice in role play situations.  Topics include: 

  • Understanding the experience of conflict
  • Transformative Mediation Theory
  • Role of the mediator
  • Mediator interventions and skills
  • Role of empowerment and recognition
  • Issues specific to divorce and custody
  • Emotional aspects of divorce and custody issues
  • Ethics
  • Special problems

What does it cost?
For the full 5 day training, an early bird discount fee of $1100 will be accepted for registrations paid in full by May 17, 2012.  The fee for registrations received thereafter is $1225. Please add $100 for 37 PA C.L.E. credits (35 substantive; 2 ethics).  Add $10 if a NASW member or $20 if a non-member for 37 PA Social Work C.E.C.’s. 

Cost for last 3 days of training only is $665 early bird if registered and paid prior to May 17, 2012 or $735 afterwards. Please add $75 for 22.5 PA C.L.E. credits (21.5 substantive and 1 ethics). Add $10 if a member of NASW or $20 if a non-member for 22.5 PA Social Work C.E.C.’s.
