Workshop Description

This four hour course is designed for lawyers, social workers, business people and other professionals who serve as mediators, or who represent
clients in mediations. Prior mediation training is NOT a prerequisite.

 You will learn:

  • A brief overview of the mediation process and ethics;
  • To be an ethically aware mediator and user of mediation services;
  • To distinguish between your role as a professional and the role of the mediator;
  • Why it matters;
  • What the laws or rules require (or suggest) to be an ethical mediator;
  • How confidentiality statutes and ethics intersect;
  • Confidential “war stories” -  the good, the bad and the ugly;
  • The art of gracefully and ethically switching hats when you wear more than one.

This will be an interactive workshop with role plays, a panel discussion and examples of “do’s and don’ts” in helping you navigate the potentially bumpy road of mediation ethics for professionals, whether as a mediator or as a user of mediation services.

Cost: $135 plus $20 for 4 C.L.E. ethics credits.  Add $15 if a NASW member or $25 if a non-member for 4 PA Social Work C.E.C.’s. Co-sponsored by the NASW-PA Brandywine Division.

Workshop fees include all training materials.  Refreshments are provided.    Return Check fee: $25.

Cancellation Policy:  We reserve the right to cancel the workshop for insufficient registration and cannot be held responsible for expenses related to reservations for overnight accommodations.  Registrants will be notified of course cancellation by the registration deadline and will receive full refunds.
