Montgomery Conflict Mediation Center

In 1983 a community mediation center was organized in Souderton, Montgomery County, PA under the name of Eastern Pennsylvania Mediation Services. In 1996 the organization changed its name to the Montgomery County Mediation Center and moved to Norristown, PA to better serve more members of an expanding and diverse mediation community. The Center moved in 2007 to larger offices and conference space at its present location in Eagleville, 4 miles west of Norristown. The name was again changed in 2009 to Montgomery Conflict Mediation Center, and it remains the only not-for-profit community mediation center in Montgomery County.

MCMC practices the transformative model of mediation, as described in "The Promise of Mediation" (Folger and Bush, 1994, Jossey-Bass). In the transformative model, all decisions, including what to talk about, how to talk about it, ground rules, and the outcome, are in the hands of the parties. The mediator is there to clarify and to support the parties in having their conversation, not to make decisions for them. The goal of transformative mediation is for the parties to gain empowerment and mutual recognition, which in turn may lead to a mutually agreeable outcome.

MCMC also offers mediation services tailored specifically to the needs of users of our services.
