Mediation Process
Conflict is a part of human interaction.  Mediation is a way to help people improve the quality of their communication when in the midst of conflict.  Mediators help parties talk together, clarify issues, develop alternatives, and make decisions.  The process gives people an opportunity to become more open to another perspective, gain interpersonal understanding and resolve their disputes.

Who should attend?
This introductory workshop is for people from all professional backgrounds.  Anyone who needs to intervene in conflicts will benefit from this workshop.

What will you learn?
Participants will learn the basic premises of the transformative approach, mediator moves and strategies, and how to support a constructive conversation for those in conflict.  Workshop format will combine lecture, group discussion and guided practice in role-play situations.  Workshop content includes: 

  • Understanding the experience of conflict
  • Transformative Mediation Theory
  • Role of the mediator
  • Mediator interventions and skills
  • Role of empowerment and recognition
  • Ethics

What does it cost?
An early bird discounted fee of $500 will be accepted for registrations paid in full by April 13, 2012.  The fee for registrations received thereafter is $550.  Please add $75 for 22.5 PA C.L.E. credits (21.5 substantive and 1 ethics).  Add $10 if a member of NASW or $20 if non-member for 22.5 PA Social Work C.E.C’s.

Workshop fees include all training materials.  Refreshments are provided.  Meals are on your own.  Return Check fee: $25.   

Cancellation Policy:  We reserve the right to cancel the workshop for insufficient registration and cannot be held responsible for expenses related to reservations for overnight accommodations.  Registrants will be notified of course cancellation by the registration deadline and will receive full refunds.
